Arch of Time commits to engaging community through a variety of events and forums that connect with representative audiences and foster thoughtful dialogue throughout the design process, during construction, and with public programming under the shade of the completed artwork. Throughout 2023 the project began engagement with Houston citizens of all ages.
This is a really cool idea. I did not know that art can be integrated with solar panels. Very creative! The community needs to be informed about renewable energy. Having this artwork would be very motivational.

As a part of early project development, the LAGI team and Riccardo Mariano were on site at Guadalupe Plaza Park in March of 2023 along with representatives of Centerpoint Energy to engage with local community, talk about solar power, and to demonstrate the functioning of the artwork with a beautiful scale model. It was from this event that the name “Arch of Time” was suggested by a local resident and adopted by the artist as the title of the artwork. The LAGI Directors also participated in the Tech Connect program where elementary school students learned about the geometry of the sundial and solar PV technology.
The event in March 2023 built upon even earlier outreach beginning with the selection process that identified Arch of Time as the LAGI project to pursue for Houston. After consultation with City officials and community representatives, a shortlist of three artists represented by the LAGI portfolio of energy-generating projects were invited in January 2023 to present their proposals for the park. It was through this process that Riccardo Mariano was commissioned as the chosen artist.
Energy is a hallmark of Houston and we would welcome this beautiful piece to our neighborhood!
