The Artist

Riccardo Mariano, Arch of Time Artist

Riccardo Mariano is an Italian designer based in Berlin. Trained as an architect, he earned a Master of Science in Architecture with honors from Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, Switzerland in 2009. Following his graduation, Riccardo joined BIG, Bjarke Ingels Group in Copenhagen where he advanced his architectural practice working on a diverse range of projects worldwide.

Since 2012 Riccardo is part of the Design team at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin. Collaborating with the Studio he has worked on design, development and realization of architectural experimentations, large scale installations and sculptures such as Atmospheric Wave Wall, 2020 in Chicago, Overdeepening, 2018 for APMA in Seoul and Waterfall, 2016 for the Palais of Versailles.

While working with Studio Olafur Eliasson, Riccardo has been independently undertaking public art and architecture projects. In 2014 he was awarded with the LAGI Green Cities Special Jury Prize for the design Herning Energy Promenade. In 2015 he won two first prizes for the Wonderland: East Lake Tai international public art competition with the entries Flying Bi and Tao Pavilion. In 2016 Riccardo was shortlisted to design a public artwork for Bloomberg Philanthropies in Gary, Indiana and won the competition with the entry Gary’s vision. 

In 2017 Riccardo was part of a design collective that realized the pavilion Stage for a Multimedia festival in Dnipro, the project received the special mention at the prize for Urban Public Space 2018 and was nominated for Mies van der Rohe Award 2019.
